$3 Slippers
The mountains seem so far away
but I am still rolling downhill
ripping squares from the
ragged quilt-bridge to
my own dungeon
Oh, please let the seams hold —
This is my only path to comfort
“Let the bars open”
I will stay in my home
This small window is fine
I am grateful
Thank you
Please, take these leftovers with you
I don’t have the room
and I know you could use them
I’ll be fine, I promise
I’ll shuffle to the next pot
of gold — through the next
valley
I know these hills
