Entering Mountain Time
1.
Who made this day, laid it here,
a Monet haystack?
2.
Today spinning its bristling thorax
into yesterday’s frayed and silky wings,
the sweetest vertigo.
3.
God is the space between ironies.
Tomorrow is the promise, snow
falling or melting. In the morning
we will see bear tracks in Dorry Canyon.
Jeffrey Thompson was raised in Fargo, North Dakota, and educated at the University of Iowa and Cornell Law School. He lives in Phoenix, Arizona, where he practices public interest law. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Neologism Poetry Journal, North Dakota Quarterly, The Main Street Rag, Passengers Journal, Tipton Poetry Journal, and The Tusculum Review. His hobbies include reading, hiking, and photography.
