Issue Twenty-Two – Letter from the Editor

June 30, 2025

Hello wildlings,

Welcome to our first issue of 2025: the REVOLUTION Issue.

I first want to say thank you to my art editor, Amanda McLeod, who stepped in and wrote the Editor’s Letter for our September 2024 issue because I live in Asheville, NC and was dealing with the after of Hurricane Helene. Then she saved me again when she wrote the letter for our December 2024 issue because I spent the last two weeks of December as sick as I’ve been in a long time. And thank you to our readers, Narmadhaa and Jude Marr, who bring their unique perspectives to every issue of Feral. We are a diverse and global team – Australia, New Zealand, Portugal, and the United States. And the four of us have never physically been in the same room together at the same time. But we are able to think beyond borders and beyond our individual experiences to bring poetry and art to you year after year.

I admit I’ve struggled for weeks to find the right words to introduce our REVOLUTION Issue because I’m still struggling to find the right words to describe my feelings since last November. And then I realized that this journal is not about me and my feelings about the current state of the world. Instead, I need to stand back and let our wonderful contributors share their words and their images.

That being said, I am happy to tell you that this issue is not just about anger and despair and confusion, although you will find those here. But you will also find defiance and joy – and celebration of the other, the outcast. Ecstatic embracement of nonconformity.

To our contributors: Thank you for your refusal to be silent. Y’all make me proud.
