A Bird at a Window with No Curtains
I’m waiting for the mirrored glass
to grow a crack that curls into a vine,
waiting for his beak to chip
a hole the size of a fingernail
in the pane, in the paper-thin
shell between my air and his.
I’m waiting for him
to find out that he too has come through,
out of the cold egg of the outside,
into the warm egg of the in –
