Cuarantena Sonambulo
the moon over the desert cried for 40 days and 40 nights/
I baked bread and burnt sage for a virtual audience/ blessed
was the primrose, the cactus, and the sereus: all most alive
in a field of grief / the bloody arrow splits through orion’s chest
if only to change the scenery / I hold my lover’s face in my palms/
my exodus from a sterilized world brought me to the ginkgo tree,
who shakes the weight of 270 million years like it’s nothing/
because time is nothing/ the cherry blossoms bloomed / we never saw /
what happens if it rains in the desert? / I am barefoot / I am naked
for the first time in my life / I can see the gleam in a coyote’s eyes and/
I am the one who’s afraid.
Kerenn Irias is a New Jersey native with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and English. She has a penchant for exploring the ocean, humanity, and everything in between. Her work has previously appeared in Kissing Dynamite, Insanity’s Horse, and the What You Need to Know About Me anthology.
