Issue Eight – Letter from the Editor

June 1, 2021

Welcome to Issue 8 which begins “I found four tiny teeth in my breakfast cereal this morning” and ends with “Memory is a plane with no landing gear, flying in circles forever.”

In between you will find: cranberry bushes, lanterns, nurses, shirtwaists, twine, red tanagers, phone numbers, Dixie Cups, ants, groundskeepers, the letter Y, a tidal zone, cane knife, Indiana Jones, whiskey tasting stations, delinquents, antlers, centipedes, the voice of God, magical authority, blunt metal, earlobes, home-sun chaos, watermelon, a nucleus, horses, a curmudgeon, magpies, tangos, the Mississippi River, movie tickets, swans, transubstantiation, pajama sharks, something small, holograms, skin of grapes, civilized ambitions, a new scale, foundlings, immortality, a walking uterus, Dr. Frankenstein, dandelions, My Little Pony, a blanket, the Kraken, and a house of cards.

And because we like to keep track of things, here are our usual “numbers.”  Issue 8 has the work of 57 contributors (poets and artist), 13 returning and 44 new. Of the 44 new contributors, 7 have been previously rejected so let that serve as our continuing reminder to submit and resubmit. Our contributors (who have shared their location) currently live in Australia, Canada, England, India, Ireland, Nigeria, Scotland, Singapore, Southeast Asia, Spain, Wales, and the Unites States (in 16 states).  We also have some teenage contributors in this issue, as well as the poetry and art of individuals who have only a few publications to their credit and those who have published multiple books and won multiple awards. This will never change for us and from what you’ve told us – it’s this inclusivity and variety of voices that you love about our journal. It’s what we love about it, too.

It continues to be my privilege and joy to work with Amanda McLeod and Narmadhaa, and to publish the work of our wonderful and talented contributors.

Cheers,

Beth Gordon
