Issue Eleven – Letter from the Editor

December 1, 2021

Welcome to Issue 11 and our final issue of 2021.

This is our smallest issue since Issue 1 released April 1, 2020. This was a deliberate choice:  When we started Feral we thought of it as an online journal. Very quickly we decided to offer it in print as well. As an online journal we did not want to put artificial limitations on the “size” of each issue. However, as the print editions are becoming more and more popular due to the wonder pairings of art/poetry – we realize that it has become unaffordable for many individuals. As a highly inclusive press, we wanted to bring down the cost and that is only possible with fewer pages. With cost in mind, we will also be offering print subscriptions beginning in 2022 at a 10% discount.

Another change for 2022 is that we are only going to be publishing 4x a year. Check out our submission page for themes and publishing schedule.

Back to Issue 11. We hope you will love (as much as we love) the poetry and art of 41 contributors – 27 new and 14 returning – from six countries (England, Germany, India, Korea, Nigeria, and the United States). Of the 27 new contributors, 5 have been previously rejected. Not to be tedious, but as an editor I think it’s important to keep reminding the creative community that we really do want you to resubmit.

As we head into our 3rd year, I feel like I should say something meaningful, but all I can think to say is thank you! I feel immense gratitude for my team at Feral, Animal Heart Press, and Femme Salve Books. And even more gratitude to the writers and artists who trust us with their brilliance and beauty.

Wishing you a peaceful ending to 2021 and all good things for the New Year.
