Issue Ten – Letter from the Editor

October 1, 2021

As the Managing Editor of Feral: A Journal of Poetry and Art,  I never imagined that we would be publishing poems about the Muppets with poems about Medusa. Poems about cats named Quatrain with poems about Salome. Joey Ramone and Ophelia. Dylan Thomas and detox centers. Bonnie Raitt and Bernadette Peters. Fences and flower bombs. Tattoo artists and artistic beetles. Diego and da Vinci, Frida and Picasso, fire thieves and the Scarlet Plague. Welcome to Feral #10 – the ART issue.

Since Issue 1 (published April 1, 2020) Amanda McLeod and I have had a vision of what our fledgling journal could become. A journal where the lines between genres are blurred. A journal that celebrates collaboration & inclusiveness. A journal that lives up to its name – untamed and fierce. A journal where we continue to be surprised and enchanted by the work of our contributors, and feel privileged to shepherd their poetry and art into the world.

The ART issue has the work of 56 contributors – 43 new and 13 returning – from 11 countries: Australia, Canada, Chile, England, France, India, Italy, New Zealand, Nigeria, Scotland and the United States. Contributors with 10+ books published, award winning art exhibitions, and emerging poets/artists from age 18 to 80 including the very first publication for one of our contributors. This issue also includes our first mother/daughter collaboration, our first husband/wife collaboration, and the first time we’ve published the work of someone who is deceased.  You will also find (to our delight) an epigraph with a quotation from our very own EIC of Animal Heart Press, Elisabeth Horan.

If you follow us on Twitter (@feral_of), you may have seen that we are sponsoring a second “Bring a Friend” Zoom poetry reading hosted by former contributor, Lannie Stabile. We hope to see you there.
