Poet’s Statement
“These poems are found works from The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister by Anne Lister. As a nonbinary transgender person, Anne Lister’s diaries (as well as the Gentleman Jack series) hit very close to home and many of her words I felt to my core. As someone who grew up struggling with my identity and to understand where I fit in the larger community, these are the kinds of things I wish I had access to when I was suicidal with grief because I was not what the world deemed I was “supposed to be.””
